"Sick Style" asked me some questions about my Radio.

So I try to answer them here.

My Radio Unit is an original Ford Unit called "Blaupunkt Mp3". Normally it is black like all Ford Units, I just painted it in the same colour like the cover aground.

This Unit was sold in America out of the Ford Racing catalogue or it was sold with the US ST170 Focus called "SVT". It looks similar to the Blaupunkt Navigation Unit called "Travelpilot", but has different button names and functions.

    This Unit Supports:

    -Mp3 Cd (also burned ones)
-external 6 CD Changer (under seats)
-Sub Out for stock SVT/ST170 subwoofer (Aftermarket ones take more work)
    -RDS Radio Signal
-some more [Equalizer] Sound Options (like 9006 Audiophile)

    it dont support

    - internal CD Changer
    - DVD
    - Navigation
    - original remote control (Steering Wheel) :crying:
    - USB Slot
-advanced hands-free telephone functions (like some Ford Units) [but simple Mute function supported]

U maybe can plug a "Audio line in" (for example for Ipod) over the external 6 CD Changer connector, but you can not use a external 6 CD Changer then (works on all stock Ford Units with CD Changer connector) click here for more Info

    Installation and Problems:

To install this Radio you need a standard Adapter with "ISO Connector" like all Aftermarket Radios. for example

To get access to the other functions (Changer/Subout/Radio Mute/Alarmsystem) you need 3 Mini ISO Connectors (yellow, green, blue).

Here is a cable position plan

Another problem is the Software. The original US Software uses uneven US Frequency Steps. With this setting the stock Radio has poor radio reception in Europe.

You must switch the software to Europe - Mode to get access the the complete wave band:

To plug a 6 CD Changer you must use the harness from Blaupunkt Travelpilot or build one by ur own.

At the moment I am working on the remote control problem. Maybe it is possible but with a bigger complexity. (no Plug and Play - brazing needed)

    Where to Buy?

Maybe extreme expensive at Ford Dealer, the best way to get one is Ebay. On European Ebay sites it is rare, but on Ebay.com you have a great choise to pick one. for example

    Conclusion:

This Unit is not as good as many Aftermarket units because of price performance ratio but it supports good stock Ford appearance and fits perfect in the Mk1 Focus. For someone who favor appearance over performance it is a good choice.

I hope i will finish this project sometime and are allowed to place the Ghia badge outside. :D . My goal is to make it fully loaded with all aviable original parts possible. (beside engine and exterior (want no RS Package)

But some highly wanted points like original electric sunroof are way to expensive (around 6000 €)

But there are still some options i can add with my budget. :)

  7. Hi Hannes,

Welcome at the Dutch Focus Forum!

I also know Foka very well
cause, i am the guy who made the climatecontrol interface for the mk1 ;)

  8. Hey.

I thank you very much for this converter. Without ur help we never made it.

I have one in my car because i dont what to upgrade to facelift electronics (GEM).

But maybe I must do it now to get access to the remote open function of the windows. :(

  9. I think you can use the GEM as a seperate unit only for the windows. That way you dont have to upgrade all the wiring in your car ;)
I already discussed it with Fred.
Personally, i dont think it is worth the effort, for just opening the windows

  10. @Lars... the effort. Zou het zelfs voor jou teveel moeite zijn? Geloof ik niks van.

  11. @Marco: Personally, i really dont see the practical use of opening the windows by remote control. Only when you already have the mk2 wiring, then its easy to add ofcourse.
Closing the windows by remote is a good option :-)

  12. Very nice focus mate!!

I will slowly bored of it. No more big future plans. I would like leather seats. But no chance to get some in Germany.

Has anyone ever retrofitted a sunroof?

  14. HI Hannes, why are getting bored of the Fofo? Just because you cannot ad some more updates to the car?
I think you`ve got a very mint Fofo. In your first post you mentioned something about electric folding mirrors, atleast that`s what I make of it (in/out). Are these japanese mirrors? And where did you get them from?

About the retrofitting the sunroof, do you want an OEM version or an aftermarket one? If you want an OEM version why don`t you just cut it out (incl. some roof) of an fofo from the scrapyard and bring it to your local bodyshop and let them place the sunroof?

    Grtz. Marco

  15. Nice car, it looks great

  16. Just some "news" to the car. The mileage is now close to 200.000 km. I have some problems with my front suspention, road holes penetrate very hard right front. My power-steering pump is leeking and the exhaust manifold is not tight on the flex bellow.

All this problems dont stop me upgrading some small features. I found a man in turkey who made a modification for the US Blaupunkt Mp3 Radio. Now this thing works with Stock Focus Remote Control. I changed to Focus I Phase 2 door locks from BOSCH which should have a better Quality.

I also maybee found an easy way to upgrade to remote open function of the windows. I use a circuit board from a Window switch in combination with a Relais connected to the central locking system. But more research is needed to marke this work.

    @ dutchguy

I have some questions to the japan electrical mirrors and Mondeo/Fiesta windscreen whiper automatic. May i contact you for some comversation?

Annother question to dutch focus automatic climate control users, do you discuss and solve the "temperature shift" problem of the Focus I Phase 2 system.

This failure is not very nice, the system working not properly after some time and suddenly cooling the interior in the winter or warming the interior up in the summer. Some ppl in germany say the problem belongs to a overheated interior temperature sensor inside the automatic climate control panel. But i have the latest version of the panel (2S4H 18C612-BK) and it still happens...

    Hannes

  17. Did you check the temperature sensor on the panel? Some people here had some trouble with the temperature aswell. The sensor gathers dust which causes wrong readings. Removing the dust will solve the problem.

You have a really nice car! Nice color.

Yes, i disassemble my climate control panel and found some dust on the sensor and inlet:

Hm, maybee this should help, i can only test the system on longer yourney because the temperature drift will only appear after ~30 Minutes.

In our Focus Forum in Germany some ppl say there are other problems. For example the outlet sensor for upper air outlet (above radio) are in bad position and sometimes get in a heat accumulation and should be displaced. Other ppl. replace and upgrade fans on the panel to get a better cooling.

  19. That time is longer than what we read here when the inlet sensor is dusty. So probably there is another problem.

  20. Hannes,

Of course you may contact me :)
Even in German if you want; i can read that very well.
